plastic bag bag

In an earlier post, I said that I had a project for us, but unfortunately it involves irons, so it's probably not a very good project for school. However, it is not too difficult, and it recycles plastic bags, so here's how to make it:

Materials:

  • about 30 plastic bags
  • an iron
  • wax paper
  • a needle and thread (or a sewing machine)

how to make a bag from fused together plastic bags
  • first you cut off the handles and the bottom edge of one of the plastic bags
  • then, fold the plastic twice so there are 8 layers of plastic(for thinner or thicker plastic bags, you can adjust the amount of times you fold)
  • sandwich the folded plastic bag between two layers of wax paper, and iron for about 30 seconds on each side.
  • repeat process for all of the plastic bags

  • place all of your pieces of fused plastic into a rectangle shape that is twice as long as you want the finished bag to be, with a little bit extra for a flap (optional)

  • sew the rectangle together
  • fold the rectangle in half (if you decided to make a flap, make one side longer than the other)
  • sew up the sides
  • turn the bag inside out
  • take the handles that you cut off, and fuse them into a strap
  • sew the strap on to your bag
  • if your flap refuses to stay down, sew Velcro on.

  3. That is very cool. What a great way to use plastic that would otherwise end up as landfill.

  4. It is really a very nice cool way of reusing such a waste. Reusing the plastic in such a aspect brings awareness and a feeling of great thoughts in the new generations. Such ideas must be encouraged and motivated.
