Summer is nearly upon us, and so I decided to make a skirt out of t-shirts (actually one of them is a pair of jersey knit pants.)

So here's what I did:

Materials:

-2 t-shirts

-1 piece of wide elastic

-Thread

Tools:

-pins

-scissors

-needle or sewing machine

Directions:

First, cut 2 large rectangles from each of your two t-shirts by cutting off the sleeves and collar and then cutting anything else you need to make the edges strait.

Basically, just sew the rectangles together, alternating in color.

So you have a big tube.

Then turn your head to the right because I was having some trouble uploading pictures to blogger, and sew the elastic to the skirt(I used the waistband from the pants I was using instead of one of the t-shirts). While you sew the elastic to the skirt, pull the elastic so that when you sew, the fabric will ruffle up.

Cut the skirt to the length you want it plus a little bit extra for the hem, hem it, and....

ta-da!

I'm not sure if I like the color combination enough to wear it out, but it is extremely soft and comfortable not to mention extremely easy to make, so I am definitely making it again.

Scratch paper

Please please please put your paper with a blank side into the scratch paper bin. We are wasting quite a bit of paper that way. I mean, sure we're recycling our paper, but that takes a lot of energy, which could easily be saved. Very easily. Anyway, have a green afternoon!

There is a brand of completely biodegradable garbage bags. They are called:
BioBags
Though they are a bit more expensive and not quite as water proof, they work extremely well and are better for the environment
Wax paper bags are also good though can usually only be used once. Resealable plastic sandwhich bags are okay only if they are washed and reused.
Throwing plastic sandwhich bags and grocery bags out after only one use is a waste of resources and money along with being terrible for the environment.

it's disposable!

I went to the dentist today and was kind of surprised. Practically everything was disposable. The toothbrushes that you use before your appointment then throw away, the part of the x-ray machine that your mouth is on, the little tub that holds the toothpaste, the tip of the big electric tooth brush, the list goes on and on. My point is that we are able to reuse things, so why shouldn't dentists? Unfortunately, it doesn't really stop at just dentists. I was just finished getting a shot when I realized that the syringe was just being thrown away. I mean, it wasn't exactly sterile anymore, but if the syringe was made a little bit better, it probably could be sterilized. I wonder how much plastic and metal that would save.

Red is Finn!!!! :) Anyway not only are we working to live in greener ways but we are tring to save the bees which are rapidly dieing. 1 out of every 3 bees died last winter!!! there is a quote from Albert Einstien saying that if the bee is killed then man kind only has four more years to live! Some ways that you can help the bees is by planting Foxglove, Red clover, Bee balm and Joe-pye weed. Thank you and stay green!
